Academic Regulations


1. Student Registration and Course Enrollment

A. Enrollment period

  1. Each semester, a student shall complete the registration procedures within the designated period.
  2. Those who do not complete the registration procedures within the designated period shall be dismissed and the university shall strike the student��s name off the school register.
  3. A student allowed only once to enroll the courses within the period designated in the academic calendar.

B. Credits allowed per semester

In principle, a student may acquire 12 to 18 credits in a semester (seniors may acquire 3 credits at minimum). However, those who study at colleges that require more than 140 credits for graduation may acquire as many as 21 credits, and students who shall acquire more than 160 credits may take up to 24 credits during a semester.

C. Acquisition of exceeded credits

  1. A student with a GPA of the immediate prior semester is 4.0 or above without a failure (F) may directly take up to 3 more credits in his/her course enrollment program.
  2. A student cannot take over 6 exceeded credits in a semester including the credits acquired through a special examination.

2. Examinations

A. Principle

Basically, more than two written tests shall be conducted per subject in a semester. However, the subjects requiring experiments and practices may not require a written test.

B. Individual test

A student who has attended more than 80 percent of the class but cannot take an exam due to the following reasons may acquire the credit through an individual test:

  1. Those who are enlisted prior to the end of a semester
  2. Those who received a permission from the university president due to a special reason

3. Grading

A. Assessment: All of the subjects shall be assessed by the criteria in the table below.

B. Credit recognition

Grades D0 or above is admitted as an acquired credit. However, the once-recognized credit may be cancelled if the credit is granted by mistake or when it is admitted to be acquired through a cheating.

C. GPA

GPA shall be calculated in a following formula: (GPA includes an F)

Credits enrolled except subjects with a P or an F

D. Notice of grading

  1. Grades will be notified for three days by the professor/lecturer responsible for the course within 7 days from the completion of final test.
  2. Grading with an objection can be corrected during the grading notice period after being confirmed by the professor/lecturer responsible for the course.

4. Honors, Warnings and Repeat

A. Honors

  1. A cum laude of semester is granted to a student who acquires 15 credits or more in a semester (18 credits or more for a college requiring 140 credits for graduation and 20 credits or more for a college asking for 160 credits for graduation) with a GPA of 4.0 or above and a good attitude.
  2. A cum laude is awarded to a student with a good attitude and with an overall GPA of 4.0 or above without an F in his/her records, and summa cum laude is given to a student with an overall GPA of 4.2 or above during his/her overall period of attendance.

B. Grade warning

A grade warning will be issued to a student whose semester-end GPA is 1.5 or lower (1.75 or lower in case of a student at the College of Oriental Medicine and the College of Medicine) due to his/her lack of academic achievement and a student who did not attend the course.

C. Course failure

A student with an extremely low GPA at the College of Oriental Medicine and the College of Medicine may receive a course failure and the student shall repeat the corresponding course not advancing into the next school-year.

5. Leaves of Absence (counseled by the administration office of the corresponding college)

A. General leave of absence

A student who cannot continue his/her study for inevitable reasons such as economic difficulty or a student who cannot attend four-fifths of the class in a semester shall acquire a permission by submitting the form of general leave of absence signed by the student��s patrons to the administration office of the college to which the student belongs.

B. Leave of absence by illness
A student who wishes to take a leave of absence for an illness requiring a mid and long term cure during the semester shall submit the form of general leave of absence signed by the student��s patrons and a medical certificate issued by a general hospital, which states more than 8 weeks of curing period is needed, within 10 days from the occurrence of the cause to take such leave of absence.

C. Period permitted to leaves of absence

In principle, a student may take a two-semesters-long general leave of absence in one time. A student who wishes to take a leave of absence more than two semesters shall apply such request online during the period granted for general leave of absence and receive permission from the school authority. The aggregate period of leave of absence cannot exceed six semesters. A student who wishes to take a leave of absence to cure his/her illness during a semester shall submit the form of general leave of absence signed by the student��s patrons and a medical certificate issued by a general hospital, which states more than 8 weeks of curing period is needed, within 10 days from the occurrence of the cause to take such leave of absence.

D. Leave of absence of freshmen

Freshmen are solely allowed to take a leave of absence to cure an illness or to serve the military, and cannot apply for a general leave of absence.

6. Returning to School (counseled by the administration office of the corresponding college)

A student who wishes to return to school due to the expiration of a general leave of absence shall confirm online the result of application to return to school. A student who does not return to school during the designated period shall be dismissed from the school.

7. Dismissal

A. Dismissal due to the expiration of leave of absence period shall apply to the students who do not return to school during the designated period.
B. Dismissal for not registering school shall apply to students who do not enroll by the registration period.
C. Dismissal by discipline shall apply to students with less than 1.5 of GPA (less than 1.75 in case of students at College of Korean Medicine and College of Medicine) and students who receive more than three times of grade warnings during their period of attendance.
D. Voluntary resignation shall apply to students who enter other university or who abandon their school register due to personal reasons.

8. Graduation

To graduate school, a student shall register more than 8 semesters (except early graduation students); shall fulfill the requirements of achieving major credits, liberal compulsories and electives; shall acquire graduation credits or more; and shall pass the graduation thesis.
