Kim, Kyo-gak became a Buddhist monk after leaving his royal family in Silla (capital: Gyeongju). In A.D. 720, he went over to China and practiced asceticism at Kuhasan mountain for 75 years. After that, he entered nirvana at the age of 99. The book Kuhasansungsagi said that although his body was in a stone box for 3 years, it maintained his living figure. In A.D. 813, people made his body into a Buddhist statue and enshrined it in a stone pagoda. His enlightenment campaign was similar to that of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. Now Chinese people call him Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, Kim, Kyo-gak, and he is now venerated in China
